What is Club 21?

Club 21 is also known as the 21st Century Community Learning Center, and this will actually be the third year Millville Public School’s elementary schools will be part of this program. However, this is RM Bacon School’s first year.

The mission of Club 21 at RM Bacon Elementary School, in partnership with families, the community, and RM Bacon School staff, is that each student achieves academic and personal excellence, becomes a lifelong learner and is a responsible citizen of the world, by engaging all students in meaningful programs which meet the highest educational and ethical standards within a caring, collaborative learning community.

The 21st Century Community Learning Center is a federally funded program supported by the New Jersey Department of Education. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) programs are defined as centers that offer academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment opportunities to students and their families when school is not in session. The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program is intended to: create community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities for children, to meet the state’s Core Curriculum Content Standards in core academic subjects, offer students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs, and offer literacy and other educational services to families of participating students. For more information about 21st Century Community Learning Centers, check out this link: http://www.nj.gov/education/21cclc/.

The theme of our program this year is STEM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics. Our activities will include various science experiments, iPad app creation, space exploration, video game design, and so much more! We will also webchat and meet with cool guest speakers (like an xBox video game designer!). Students will have fun learning and have more opportunities and exciting, educational experiences than your average 4th and 5th grader.

Our goal is to provide a safe environment promoting student innovation, collaboration, leadership, and other 21st Century skills. We are very exciting to start Club 21 at RM Bacon School, and we’re going to have an awesome year!

This project was funded in its entirety with federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by No Child Left Behind, Title IV, Part B, 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant funds through a grant agreement with the New Jersey Department of Education.
