Genius Hour Kick Off!

Club 21 students are embarking on an exciting new learning journey called Genius Hour. First, they participated in a presentation then listed everything they were interested in and/ or wanted to know. They narrowed their long lists of passions and interests to one project to last them the rest of the school year. The idea is simple: Allow people to work on something that interests them, and productivity will go up.

What some of our geniuses are currently working on:
Cameron is writing a musical about sports.
Te’Yonna is creating a sketchbook of looks for a fashion design portfolio.
Joya is creating a plan to help Bacon School reduce its carbon footprint.
Nailah is developing support tools for students who are victims of bullying.
Ashanti is aiming to increase animal adoptions from the local animal shelter.
Mark is recording an album.
Vianka is creating a mural illustrating the dangers humans pose to animals in the wild.
Alana is developing an endangered species identification guide for our local parks.
Omarion is recording video tutorials for children who want to learn how to play basketball.
Kei’Raha is putting together a booklet for local senior citizens to use as a resource in emergencies.
Brandon is creating a website with tips for improving health and fitness through break dancing.
Chase is creating a comic book about baseball.
Aniyah is putting together an informational book about cheetahs.
Xavier is writing an introductory guide to basketball.
Emeline is putting together a softball playbook.
Niyasia is learning how to play the piano.

Students are given at least one dedicated hour each week to work on their passion projects, but they are also welcome to work on them during any center time or recreational periods as well. We'll be sharing our digital maker fair in late June- stay tuned!
